Yvonnne Clay is the Senior Marketing Manager to Gunwharf Quays. In this episode, Yvonne  talks about enjoying the challenge of having a diverse role, the importance of brilliant teams, and how her experience as a young Engineer & qualified Welder gave her some grit ! 

 

Charlene Maines is so much fun to spend time with; a half-hour meeting pretty much turned into two ! Here, she talks about her eclectic projects and initiatives including 'Choices for You'  which provides employment services to women, community cooking initiatives and International Women's Day projects. I also find myself, yet again talking about my love of food. 

Amanda is the 2019 #PIW: Education Award Recipient which recognised her inspirational work as the National Vice President of the National Education Union. Here she talks about her passion for empowering women as part of the NEU values, her love for Portsmouth & the ever-demanding balancing act of being a working mother.

Rowshonara is Trailblazer & part of the selection panel selecting Award Recipients for She works with Adult Social Care within Portsmouth City Council. As a Community Development Officer, her role is to work with Black, Asian Minority & Ethnic Refugees [BAMER] and enable these communities to access to a range of services that reduce isolation and promote well being.

Priscilla is founder of the Noah Mapalo Centre which aims to give vulnerable communities the dignity of finding sustainable, empowering solutions to their challenging situations. Priscilla talks about the organisation's current focus of period poverty and also reflects on the importance of having a tribe around you.

Pamodzi is proud to support the Portsmouth Abuse and Rape Counselling Service  Kim Hosier is Centre Director and is an incredible gift to Portsmouth. As well as talking about what inspires her, Kim talks about the need for a holistic approach that also finds ways to challenge cultures that support the continuation of violence against women, men, boys and girls...'because perpetrators love myths'.

Dr Jo Preston, a Marine Biologist talks about the unique privilege of leading a ground breaking marine project and how being a female Scientist can have both challenges and opportunities. She also talks about how she was inspired to define her own rules on how mother-hood and family life can compliment her identity as a leading Scientist in her field.

Samm Hart, is the youngest person so far in the series. One of my favourite moments is her describing being the only girl in a rugby team ; 'I didn't want them to get the wrong impression of me, so for my first game, I just tackled the biggest boy on the pitch'.

 

The Fabulous Josh & his Mother Tracie talk about Josh's formative years of growing up in a safe, nurturing space and being free to play with 'non-gender specific toys' before 'non-gender specific toys became fashionable' and the delight of being able to have a mother as a muse that enables creative, accessible art'.

 

Carrie Anne and Her son Dylan (10) talk about his recent achievements at the World Hip Hop Championships and the importance of attitude in winning and being inspired !
